How Grid-Tied Solar Electric Systems Work
The Enphase Microinverter
The Enphase Microinverter is a fundamentally new approach to solar energy.
Traditionally, solar systems are designed around a single inverter device. This means that tens, hundreds or even thousands of solar panels are controlled all at once, which decreases system performance and reliability.
Enphase Microinverters replace these large pieces of electrical equipment with small electronics attached to each solar panel. Each microinverter uses advanced digital electronics to precisely control the power from the panel, leading to significant increases in overall output and adding a new layer of intelligence throughout the system.

Each Microinverters integrates with advanced networking technology and web-based software to enable new levels of intelligence and connectivity in the solar array.
Specifically, the Enphase Microinverter System consists of the following components:
Net Metering: Fortis's Net Metering program is designed for residential and commercial customers who wish to generate their own electricity using a "BC Clean" energy source such as solar, wind or micro hydro, and connect to the Fortis distribution system. When customers with their own generation capabilities produce more than they consume, they will receive a credit from Fortis that goes to their account and can be applied against future consumption charges or be paid out annually.
